Cherry Window Sills
Smooth, close grain that darkens with age and sunlight — and the widest stain range we carry, at twenty-seven finishes.
What cherry is like
Cherry has the closest, smoothest grain of the four, which is why it takes such a wide range of stains cleanly — twenty-seven finishes, more than any other species here.
The characteristic worth planning for is that cherry darkens. UV exposure deepens it from a light pinkish-tan toward a rich reddish-brown, and most of that change happens in the first six to twelve months. A sill in a bright window will shift noticeably. That is not a defect — it is why people choose cherry — but the piece you receive is not the colour it settles at.
The 27 cherry finishes
Every finish below is sprayed on cherry and shown on your own piece inside the configurator — not on a swatch card.
Choosing cherry for a sill
Where it fits
Traditional and transitional interiors, and any room where existing cherry cabinetry or trim needs matching. If you are matching aged cherry, send a photo — we colour-match to where the existing wood is now, not to where new cherry starts.
Where it does not
North-facing rooms with little direct light, where cherry never develops the patina that makes it worth choosing. And anywhere you need the colour to stay exactly as delivered.
Cherry window sill sizes
Cut to your opening rather than to a size chart.
| Dimension | How it works |
|---|---|
| Length | Jamb to jamb, entered to 1/16", from 18" to 144" in one piece. A 1/16" reveal per side lets the piece drop into an out-of-square opening. |
| Depth | Wall face to window frame, plus your projection into the room. Most interior sills run 5" to 12". |
| Eared returns | How far the ends run past the opening. 2½" is typical; zero for a flush cut. |
| Thickness | 3/4" slab, with a laminated build-up edge to read as 1½", 2½", 3" or 4" from the front. |
| Edge profile | All six profiles machine into cherry: eased, bevel, radius, cove, ogee and Roman ogee. |
